How can working with a specialist help

If you’ve arrived at my website its’s likely that you, or someone you care about is needing support from a professional therapist. As a therapist with a specialism in working with children and young adults ( 7 - 25 years) I regularly work with children, young people, parents and professionals who are seeing change, a return to health, and a rediscovery of themselves from a kinder and calmer place.

What I know and understand about working with children and young adults

For variety of reasons, some children and young people may develop fears, limiting beliefs or big emotions at odds with their developmental stage, peers or experience of life previously. As no two children or adult experiences life in the same way, my role is to support my clients to start to process emotional experiences that may be impacting their ability to thrive.

My Clinical Module in brief:

My belief in the power of therapeutic relationships stem from the fact that we are social and relational beings. who are hard wired to respond to feeling seen, heard and understood in our own way. As we rarely recover well in isolation, child and young adult focused therapeutic support intergrates aspects of Attachment theory, Child development, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) aspects of play and creative arts therapy to meet a child or young adult where they are today and specifically so. Working in this way recognises and responds to the fact that words alone are rarely not enough.

“The most daunting thing about starting therapy is finding the right therapist. I feel incredibly lucky to have found Stella’s practice, not only because she is a great listener, but also knows how to help my thoughts flow in the right direction”. Una 25

My current practice settings:

  • Private practice - weekly sessions contracted privately with families and clients

  • Education: Primary through to University age clients to include the set up and management of a thriving schools based counselling service in an East London primary school.

  • Clinical Supervisor - supporting the skills and development of other therapists working in the field. I am passionate about giving back (and paying forwards) to the incredible Supervisors who have clinically supported my work and life experiences.

  • I am trauma treatment trained (Body based and talk therapy) with experience of responding to female survivors of sexual assault and all forms of gendered aggression. (Women and Girls Network and beyond).

  • I work closely with professionals in education to include; Headships, Safeguarding leads, Alternative provision leads, Senco’s and am also part of a team of Mental Health professionals and Counsellor’s at the University of Arts London (UAL). Thinking Spaces are available to respond to the high demand of these professional roles and communities.

Let’s make a start.

How can therapy help in times of challenge?

Strong brains, reflective minds, open hearts. No two humans or families experience situations in the same way. Sessions facilitate another space for self -learning, self- regulation & resilience when challenge comes.

Trauma & Attachment informed therapy and Clinical Supervision

The impact of attachment or trauma injuries can lives on in our bodies, relationships and nervous system long after the initial event. If useful, I can include aspects of talk therapy and body based trauma treatment perspectives within therapy sessions or Clinical Supervsion for Child and Adolescent therapists, Social workers, Mental Health Advisors and professionals with the Health and Education Sector.
